There are many ways of managing your projects and tasks – probably as many as project managers. Some are highly effective, some are visually attractive, some are in the cloud, some have a wide range of features, and others even include some extra useful tools. And then there is DropTask – a comprehensive and full-featured task manager that is all of the above and then more.
Though DropTask unleashes all its power when accessed via Web, a Windows app has also been made accessible for those who need or have to work offline every now and then. This review is mainly about the Windows desktop version – which is, by the way, still in beta – but there is no way of praising all the beauties of this excellent tool without exploring its cloud version, too. Obviously, the functionality in the desktop version lacks all the features that deal with syncing and exporting issues or with project permissions and visibility. However, it covers all the functionality you require to create and edit projects, tasks, and groups and to assign people to them. You can also change the status of a task, add notes to it, check the activity list, create notifications, and sync all your work with your favorite devices. As soon as you go back online, DropTask will sync with your web account and will share with all your colleagues any changes you just performed offline. It also integrates seamlessly with Outlook and Google Contacts. more
DropTask has been widely acclaimed for its attractive and highly functional visual design. Actually, it not only looks good, but it is also functionally very effective. Groups and tasks can be created just by dragging the corresponding icon to the working area. You can then link them to existing or new projects, assign staff to them, and add all sorts of flags and signs to each task and thus assess its urgency, importance, effort, and status. It’s all very easy, colorful, and intuitive, and can be easily organized as a mind map just by dragging the various elements across the screen until they make sense to you.
The free version of DropTask is good to get a taste of the program’s look and feel, but its functionality is somehow limited. A Pro version exists, and there is where it really shines. Together with unlimited projects and collaborations, you will be allowed to add comments and unlimited attachments to your projects, assign tasks complete with subtasks, add cover images, and manage task dependencies and reminders. Besides, you will be able to have a conversation with your collaborators in real time and thus save in messages and e-mails. Projects can be thoroughly customized using the Pro version – project themes and templates or permission and visibility settings are just some of its many project-related features.
The possibilities are manifold, and the program’s high level of flexibility adds to its increasing functionality. DropTask is certainly a tool to recommend, especially to those who want to give a more dynamic and visually attractive approach to their task management activities.
